Composite narrative: challenges faced by Maasai girls
This is the 2nd in a series of essays written by KCEA students. It is a composite narrative of the many challenges faced by Maasai girls and of the joy when a girl is welcomed into the extended family of KCEA students…
How she wished someone could read her mind and heart, see the dreams and the ambitions she had, see the visions she had. At times she could sit down, shed tears and ask herself if she really has a purpose in this world. She wondered why it was taking her too long to move out of darkness. Everything in her life was blurred. Her past and present were all filled with sadness, pain, regrets and total darkness. All she needed was someone to help her to her feet once again, someone to help her make her dreams come true, someone, someone to give her hope and strengthen her. At times she lost hope and imagined maybe whoever was to help her never existed.
Little did she know that pretty souls were there waiting for her. A lemonade was made out of the lemon. Her tears and worries were changed to happiness, smiles and great hope. She could see herself majestically walking out of the dark tunnel, getting into complete light. Her education which was terminated due to early pregnancy was resumed. She got pregnant when she was a teenager not because she was ill-mannered but because of the pain and sufferings she was going through. She could not afford a mere sanitary towel that she needed every single month due to the call of nature. Due to the extreme poverty at home, they could not afford a meal thrice a day. Actually they could sleep hungry for several days. This pushed her to do whatever was harmful to herself so that she could afford all these that were necessary for her survival. In the process she ended up becoming pregnant. She faced rejection from friends and family.
She got into depression but thanks to God who brought the amazing organisation KCEA to her way. The organisation overlooked her broken fence and saw the flower garden in her compound. They accepted her, showed her love, helped her to actualise her dreams, helped through several seminars and workshops till she healed completely. They made her understand that she is still of importance in this world. They helped her develop self love, and most importantly she moved her family out of poverty to a better, more desirable and adorable life, and so that she would never forget where she came from she decided to join KCEA and save other girls out of poverty and rejection. God bless all the kind hearts, mending the broken hearts and putting smiles on frowned faces. With much love
