Transportation Challenges

There are MANY challenges in promoting education for Maasai girls, one of which is transportation. In 2011, we asked the KCEA founder John Keshe “How do you travel (for example to Santayia's village) since you don’t have a car?" John's simple answer was "I travel using public transport and walk; most challenging for social work." So, with limited funds, we bought him a very simple used Suzuki and it’s helped him be SO much more effective.

But car maintenance is always a challenge. For example, one day he emailed "My car has been damaged so badly by a zebra last Saturday night. Perris and I travel to ololulunga to visit a [a student’s mom and bring medications]. Her home is 50miles away from Narok on our way going back home and it was raining so hard and all of sudden herd of zebras who were being chased by lions come running crossing the road i managed to stop right in the middle of them i thought they were going to run over my car it was terrifying so one zebra just a few inches missed the driver's car window and hit the side bonnet of my car damaging it very much.”
